The digital object identifier (DOI) is a unique alphanumeric string assigned by a registration agency (the International DOI Foundation) to identify content and provide a persistent link to its location on the Internet. The publisher assigns a DOI when an article is published and made available electronically.
DOI Example: 10.1037/bdb0000065
When to include a DOI
When you are using the APA citation style, a DOI is part of the citation.
Where do you find the DOI?
The DOI will be included in the citation generated by the database. However, if it is missing, you can find it on the article. If you don't see the DOI while looking at your article in a library database, try clicking on "full text" or "download PDF" and looking at the first page of the article.
